Paris is known for being a romantic city with its sights, smells, and the flowing sounds of French in the air that stir the heartstrings. Being surrounded by the world famous architecture Paris has to offer, you can’t help but to fall in love with this city.
We went to Paris with high expectations and they were met to the fullest! When we first arrived in Paris we were awestruck with the depth and detail of the architecture. Every building and street whispers of the rich history this city has.
The Eiffel tower, like all tourists, was one of the top must see’s on our list. While it was impressive and enormous, it didn’t quite satisfy like we had thought it would. We stared up admiring the design and size as it appeared to reach into the sky. We shot a few photos from various angles…and then we moved onto the next sight. I am not discouraging any of you from seeing it. However, if you’re short on time, it is perfectly fine to see it from a distance!
We made our way over to the Louvre. I must say that the entire area surrounding the Louvre is stunning! The detail that is on every building will keep you gazing with admiration for some time. When you enter the center you will see the beautiful glass pyramid that takes you inside to the museum below where hundreds of gorgeous artworks are displayed including the famous Mona Lisa.
We spent quite a bit of time at the Louvre both outside and inside. If your a photographer this is a place to give yourself plenty of time to shoot! We ended up staying until it started to get dark out and it paid off with incredible shots like the one above.
The last place that was on our must see list was the Catacombs. This is a highly sot after place to see and the line was wrapping around the block with hundreds of people! We were able to purchase a skip the line ticket, saving us the pain of waiting hours in the forever line.
When we first got to the Catacombs we were just excited to be there and able to see it. Anyone who thinks about Paris will undoubtedly think about the Catacombs. The thing is, we weren’t expecting it to effect us in the way that it did. Within 5 minutes of wandering down the damp musty tunnels lined with thousands upon thousands of bones meticulously stacked together, we were horrified. Seeing all of these peoples bones that go on endlessly was the saddest thing we have ever seen. The mood was somber and quiet. The rows of skulls scattered intermittently with small little children’s skulls broke our hearts, and by the time we exited out the end onto the side of a street, we were very somber. It took us about a good hour to shake the feeling.
Although it effected us the way that it did we are glad for the experience and still recommend that you make this a must see when in Paris.
Overall, Paris has become one of our favorite destinations and we make it a point go back and visit as often as we can. If you ever get the chance to make it to Paris absolutely go! You won’t be disappointed in the slightest.
